Hwy. 101

coast to coast first stop on the Pacific!

Haystack Rocks

Packed up in Bend and headed to the Oregon coast for our drive up the 101 to Washington.  On our way, we stopped in Corvallis, home to OSU, for a tour of the campus and a quick stop at the bookstore for the honorary Tulle box sticker.  We also watched the baseball team practicing for the NCAA tourney.
The drive to the coast was absolutely lush and gorgeous - with trees so big and green, they create a sort of canopy covering the road.  I feel like I say it all the time, but these drives are really stunning...so much so that I actually stay awake in the car, which is saying a lot!!!
The coast of Oregon is really pretty and we were lucky enough to experience bright sun and misty gray.  We were hoping to catch a whale as they are migrating up the coast now, but it didn't happen so we just hit the aquarium instead.  We did make it to the biggest lighthouse on the Pacific and watched the puffins and seals frolic together on the rocky coastline.  We spent our final night in Cannon Beach which has a very similar feel to Kennebunkport - quaint and charming.  On to Port Townsend, WA...

  1. That is quite an accomplishment for all of you to go coast to coast, very impressive. Of course the great views of 101 were probably clearer with a new windshield via Bend inciDENT.
I hope you guys found what you were looking for on the beach. Grant, you do a lot of hugging your Mom. Good boy.
