After a great weekend in Portland, we headed to Beaverton OR which was right across the river from Portland. Beaverton is home to the Nike headquarters, its huge campus looks as if it covers the entire town. After a quick bite to eat, we were off to the employee store that our friend Mr.Venden was able to get us into, he works as an attorney for Nike in Maine. The employee store was crazy with wall to wall Nike gear off offering huge discounts. After a full hour of shopping, we were ready to visit the campus. Our next stop was to meet our tour guide Kate ( Mr.Venden set this up as well us). Kate took us through each building which are named after athletes such as Tiger Woods, Nolan Ryan, Michael Jordan and more! She showed us a track on the Nike campus that was made out of 50,000 recycled Nike shoes. After a few more buildings she took us to this time capsule that Nike put in the ground 20 years ago when Nike was first founded. The capsule has a note from Phil Knight the founder of Nike, original Nike shoes, and shoes that 20 years ago they thought the future would make. That capsule will be dug out this September, . Kate took us through one of Nike's basketball courts and than she showed us out onto a balcony that overlooked the Nike turf. This turf was open to all employees to work out on. As we started looking around my dad said, "Grant that's Ndamukong Suh" The only person on the turf was Suh working out with a trainer! He is one of the Detroit Lions best players and one our favorites! That there was my highlight of the day, we finished up the tour after that and headed back to the car. What a great day. A big thanks to Mr. Venden for getting us into the employee store and setting up the tour. SWOOSH!  Grant

  1. Hey Grant. I hope Suh did not step on your neck.
He has been known to do that on National TV. It is just great to know there are some good players on the downtrodden Lions. What a great chance to see the history of Swoosh.
